A Weekend in Pensacola: Palafox Market, the Pier & Jaco's
If someone asked me to plan the perfect Pensacola weekend, this is exactly what I'd hand them: a slow Saturday morning wandering Palafox Market, an afternoon with sand between my toes and a walk out over the Gulf on the Pensacola Beach Pier, and a sunset dinner on the bay at Jaco's.
When Matt and I traded long, gray Minnesota winters for the Gulf Coast, this is the kind of weekend I daydreamed about. Sunshine, good food, cute local finds, and no rush to be anywhere. Whether you're visiting for a few days or you're new here like us, this little itinerary is an easy, feel-good way to fall for Pensacola.
Saturday Morning: Palafox Market
Start your weekend downtown at Palafox Market, held every Saturday from 9am to 2pm, rain or shine.

Southern Living once named it Florida's best farmers market, and one stroll through it and you'll see why. The market now runs in two spots along Palafox Street: Palafox Market North at Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza and Palafox Market South at Plaza Ferdinand. Everything is grown, made, or created by the vendors themselves, so you'll find farm-fresh produce, flowers and plants, baked goods, handmade jewelry and art, local coffee, and so many little treasures you didn't know you needed.
My favorite way to do the market: grab a coffee, take one slow loop just to look, then circle back for whatever caught my eye. This time we went home with a loaf of fresh sourdough, a bag full of fruits and veggies, and a bundle of fresh flowers for the kitchen table.

Good to know: There's metered parking right across from the North market, plus a free market trolley from about 10:30am to 2:30pm that loops between both locations and a free city lot at 600 Commendencia Street. The market skips one Saturday a year, the weekend of the Grand Mardi Gras Parade.

Saturday Afternoon: The Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier
After the market, head over the bridge to Pensacola Beach. Once you see that sugar-white sand and turquoise water, the drive is already worth it.
The Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier sits right on Casino Beach at 41 Fort Pickens Road and stretches about 1,471 feet out into the Gulf. There's a small walk-on fee (just a couple of dollars), and it's one of my favorite ways to feel like you're out on the water without getting on a boat. Keep your eyes peeled: people spot dolphins, sea turtles, rays, and schools of fish from up there.

Bring a cover-up, your sunglasses, and a little patience for photos, because the views in every direction are ridiculous. We spotted so many dolphins and even caught the most beautiful rainbow stretching over the Gulf. Afterward, kick off your sandals and spend some time on the beach, or grab a cold drink along the Casino Beach boardwalk before heading back downtown.
Sunset Dinner: Jaco's Bayfront Bar & Grille
End the day back downtown at Jaco's, tucked at the very end of South Palafox (997 S Palafox St) right on the bay. Grab a seat on the covered patio if you can and time your reservation for just before sunset, because watching the sky go pink and gold over the water is the whole point.

The menu is a mix of fresh seafood and American favorites with fun cocktails. Locals rave about the crab cakes and the fried green tomatoes, and the flatbreads are perfect for sharing. We started by splitting the crab cakes (SO GOOD), then I had the filet and Matt went for the ribs.

After dinner, take a slow walk along the waterfront before calling it a night. If you're staying through Sunday, Jaco's also does brunch from 10am to 2pm, which makes a pretty perfect last stop before heading home.

Good to know: Reservations are limited, so call ahead at (850) 432-5226, especially on weekends.
Quick Tips for Your Pensacola Weekend
Go to the market early. The best produce, flowers, and baked goods go fast, and the morning is cooler.
Bring cash and a tote bag. Many vendors take cards, but cash is quicker and a tote makes browsing easier.
Pack beach basics in the car. Sunscreen, a towel, sunglasses, and a cover-up so you can go straight from the pier to the sand.
Book dinner around sunset. Check the sunset time that day and plan to be seated about 30 minutes before.
Fall is the sweet spot. Warm days, cooler evenings, and fewer crowds make October and November perfect for this weekend.
Slow Down and Soak It In
The best part of a weekend like this is that none of it feels rushed. A little shopping, a little sunshine, a beautiful sunset, and good food with my favorite person. It's exactly the kind of life we moved here for, and I hope it inspires you to plan a weekend that fills you up too.
Have a favorite Palafox Market vendor or a must-order dish at Jaco's? Tell me in the comments, I'm always adding to my list!
